How to prepare for brexit ? - 15/02/2019

How to prepare for brexit ?

We are now just a few months away from the date on which Great Britain leaves the European Union. British trade with the EU represents 53% of its imports and 45% of its exports, and each year more than 4 million HGVs cross the Channel. But just a few months away from the fateful date, how can we best prepare for this disruption?

The European Union is preparing for a BREXIT without agreement

Great Britain's decision to leave stems from David Cameron's promise to organise a referendum if his party won the 2015 elections. The rest is now history, on 30 March 2019 the United Kingdom will officially leave the European Union. From March 2019, the UK will be considered as a third-party country. The whole issue of the current negotiations is aimed at improving the bilateral relationship between the EU and Great Britain after this date.

Negotiators from the European Union and the United Kingdom agreed on November 25 on a draft agreement. But this agreement must be ratified by the British and European parliaments. After negotiating for several months the agreement with the EU, massively rejected by the House of Commons on January 15, Theresa May presented to Parliament on January 29 an amendment to renegotiate the same agreement. The English parliamentarians have accepted the amendment tabled, the main renegotiation is the Irish backstop. For the time being, the European Union has closed the door to negotiations on the withdrawal agreement, so it is essential to prepare for the BREXIT.

Useful documents for Brexit

It is recommended to anticipate a "no deal" and all these consequences. In this configuration, the UK will be considered as a third-party country from 30 March 2019 onwards. Border controls will be introduced for imports and exports to or from the UK. It will also be necessary to submit customs declarations for UK goods flows (documentary management, security checks, etc.). Ultimately, we may see the application of the different taxes and duties provided for in the WTO agreements.

We bring you a series of very useful documents to prepare you for BREXIT :

Centrimex Newsletter December 2018 - 13/12/2018

Centrimex Newsletter December 2018

"As for the future, your task is not to foresee it but to enable it".

Philippe HADDAD In sharing this quotation from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry with you, I hope that as 2018 draws to a close this is only the start of a bright future brimming with possibilities.

Before talking to you about tomorrow, let's dwell together on this anniversary year for our septuagenarian company, a company which, thanks to your loyalty, has been going strong for 70 years now. Its identity has been forged over the years thanks to various protagonists without whom Centrimex would not be what it is today. I would like to begin by paying tribute to my father, Raymond Haddad, its founder, with whom I have shared this exciting adventure since 1987. Born in 1924 into a comfortably-off Lebanese family, his father died when he was 15 years of age. As the eldest of the siblings, he then had to work to support his family and was obliged to abandon his dream of studying international law in London. Later, the post-war economic crisis led him to follow in his father's footsteps. He set up in Marseille in 1948 where he founded Raymond Haddad et Cie, a trading company operating between France and Dakar. As you can see, our links with Africa go back a long way!
After years of expansion, Centrimex became a group, which he gradually allowed me to manage although the adventure continued for him! At more than 80 years of age, my father set off for China and actively participated in the creation of our agency in Shanghai in 2006 and its growth over the next four years. Raymond Haddad's life reads like a novel with many twists and turns and I am still very grateful for having had the opportunity to benefit from his rich experience.

In line with a gradual move towards transit and freight forwarding, Centrimex's expansion was marked by the successive opening of agencies in France, Europe and Africa and last August in Shenzhen (China). As I mentioned, we have long-standing links with Africa as demonstrated by the opening of one or two subsidiaries each year, but more too. The creation of links between the African continent and the world's leading economic powers continues, with sites in several countries throughout Europe and Asia, to offer our clients a complete export and import service.

19 countries, 24 agencies including 14 in Africa and 3 in Asia bear witness to Centrimex's international positioning policy. The extent of our network is a great advantage when it comes to meeting your needs and to constantly improving the service quality you can expect from us.This also gives me the opportunity to pay tribute to the 300 staff working with me, who are the heart and soul of Centrimex. They are your key contacts worldwide and you can always count on their know-how , their expertise and their in-depth knowledge of the business.

As you can see, for the last 70 years Centrimex has displayed great loyalty to its clients and we have been working hand-in-hand with some of you for a long time now, while also regularly welcoming new arrivals of all sizes and from all fields and backgrounds. Loyalty is part of our lifeblood and diversity is our future.Centrimex is transforming and adapting to the digital environment. We need to be at the very cutting edge of the technological changes brought about by the digitisation of the transport sector and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the digital economy, particularly in Africa. These increasingly effective IT systems reinforce our central role as a freight forwarder as part of the logistics chain.Centrimex is also a company with a heart. In keeping with our social role, we have chosen to support a number of associations working in areas such as youth, education and health. These associations are located in the Marseille area but also in Africa, creating a further link between our two continents.

Dear clients, suppliers and friends, my staff and I would like to thank you for your loyalty, which is very dear to us. We are very proud to share our values of diversity, sharing and openness with you. It's an honour to be celebrating this 70th anniversary with you, marking 70 years of our joint history, our present day-to-day dealings together and the future, which I hope will offer many exciting new opportunities.

Best regards,

— Philippe HADDAD, CEO Centrimex

Foodstuffs, where to export in 2019? - 30/10/2018

France is the world's sixth largest agri-food exporter behind the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil and China. In 2016, French agri-food exports accounted for 58 billion euros. To help companies better understand agrifood market developments, the Agrotech Business France network publishes a guide.

Produced in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the guide is intended for SMEs and large groups. It will allow you to identify new consumer trends and market opportunities for French agri-food products and to have key information to guide your export strategy.

The first part of the guide focuses on recent developments in the agri-food market and export issues. In the second part you will find 17 sectorial zooms on specific activities (Dairy products, Fruits, Vegetables, Groceries, Spirits, etc.). The Business France teams are finally offering different market opportunities in some 40 countries. Among the themes also discussed: the strong expectations of foreign consumers about the quality and origin of products, as well as innovation and practicality.

If you are an agribusiness professional and you are looking for a secure solution for shipping and transporting your goods, do not hesitate to contact us. You can also consult our offers dedicated to the agri-foodstuffs sector.
