CEO of Centrimex

90% of the 7 billion tonnes of merchandise transported around the world travels by sea, with container ships making up more than 80% of this traffic. This situation is leading to a massive increase in the scale and concentration of merchandise in our ports. One ship-owner has just inaugurated a container ship measuring 400 meters long, 54 meters wide and a capacity of 17 700 TEUs ! The port of Antwerp is also preparing to open the largest container terminal in Europe by the end of the year, with a 3,5 km dock and around forty container cranes.
With giant terminals for gargantuan ships, container transport is growing enormously and does not look set to slow down any time soon. These new logistics strategies are surely going to have a huge impact on our clients’ profits and the teams working hard to help you through these developments.

Prosuma are optimizing their flows with Centrimex

The Prosuma Group was created in 1966, with the opening of their first 750m² supermarket.  Since then, the company has grown in leaps and bounds.  They now run almost 150 distribution warehouses in the Ivory Coast.  They have become the top distributor in Francophone Africa, and employ almost 3000 people.
With an innovative and very high performance logistics organization and significant proportion of food and drink products, Prosuma is supplied mostly by the CASINO group purchasing organization.

Nathalie Fakhry is the transit director in the Prosuma logistics department.  She is tasked with managing all of their purchasing flows, from suppliers and supply centres right up to delivery to warehouses and shops.

«With Centrimex, we have a highly responsive local contact who is aware of our needs and the continued improvement strategy for our logistics flows.  Thanks to their approachable scale and business-minded approach, Centrimex offer us fast access to the decisions we need to make, when we need to make them».

Prosuma are optimizing their flows with Centrimex

Patrick Laugier is the director for the Centrimex Agency in Vitrolles, who is tasked with consolidating orders with the CASINO group purchasing organization.

«We dispatch more than 1,500 containers per year for Prosuma, including a significant number which require a controlled temperature.  We are in charge of optimizing these container deliveries by managing the relationships with the suppliers in Europe and in Asia.  For example, we have just implemented a dedicated ICT system to track CASINO orders».

«Thanks to our base in Abidjan, we can share a global vision of our organization and all of our flows around the world with Nathalie Fakhry.  With just one dedicated contact for both sides, we have found an effective way of meeting the constantly changing requirements of the Prosuma Group», says Lisa Bachelier, director of the COLIMEX Ivory agency.

The good working practices for loading a maritime container

The good working practices for loading a maritime container

There is a code of good working practices for loading a container, and it is published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).  This United Nations agency is mostly responsible for general maritime regulation, and in particular maritime safety (the IMO publishes the IMDG code).

They have a committee specialized in maritime safety (the Maritime Safety Committee), and this committee is in charge of safety on board ships and in port installations.  To confront the ever-growing number of incidents in this field, they have just released an update to this code of good working practices.  Centrimex is always looking for ways to give our clients the benefit of the latest technical and regulatory innovations, so our experts jumped at the chance to apply these recommendations using the skills and experience of our European and Asian loading centres

The IMO has gone beyond recommendations for packaging and securing cargo, and are aiming to raise awareness among shipping professionals of their loading responsibilities, in particular concerning weight limits.  These recommendations are great news, even if the Centrimex handling teams frequently go well beyond these measures when loading their containers.  This key expertise is one of Centrimex’s biggest assets in terms of securing container-bound merchandise.  Whether completing multi-client grouping operations or filling personalized mono-client and multi-supplier containers, each Centrimex operator is aware of their responsibilities when loading, checking and securing their cargo.

The Franco-African Forum at Bercy

French President François Hollande confirmed that Africa is a strategic priority during the latest Franco-African forum.  The nation hosted fifty ministers and more than 500 French and African company directors in Bercy on the 6th of February for an African forum focused on joint development.

The Franco-African Forum at Bercy

Organized by the Ministries of the Economy and Foreign Affairs, and with collaboration from the Medef employer federation, this international event was the opportunity to announce or confirm a range of measures designed to boost cooperation and economic ties between France and Africa.  A number of distinguished guests were present, including President Hollande and Presidents Macky Sall (Senegal), Ali Bongo (Gabon) and Alassane Ouattara (Ivory Coast).

We’ll take the opportunity to highlight some of the key announcements of the summit, such as the creation of an export bank for major international contracts, the launch of new training programmes for African managers and young talent, and the development of a number of public-private partnerships (PPP) to finance infrastructure, energy and digital technology, among others.

Centrimex hopes that all of our clients in Africa and Europe will be able to take advantage of these political commitments and see their transcontinental activities prosper.

Centrimex Le Havre is moving to a bigger and better location

With the success of the export operations from our ports along the Seine, Centrimex is growing a little too big for our traditional premises.  This is why, following the increase in logistics capacity in the Rouen site, we’ve decided to relocate the Le Havre operations centre to new offices which are better suited to our business’s growth.  «Now we’ll have a better, more functional space which can adapt to our needs.  This will help us meet the demand from our European and African clients who wish to use the HAROPA installations along the Seine» confides Caroline Cerisier, Director of the Centrimex Le Havre agency.

Centrimex, standing side by side with our associations

When we make an ethical commitment, we stick to it.  This is why Centrimex and our partners are continuing our collaboration with a number of associations :

Centrimex and the Lumières Partagées Associations

The Lumières Partagées (Shared Light) association encourages the development of disadvantaged communities in Benin by installing solar panels in schools, clinics and maternity centres which run independently of the electrical grid.  Centrimex now has the pleasure of contributing to this association.

Led by Marc Padovani and Francine Perrin, two teachers from Marseille, the association goes every year to north-east Benin to install solar electricity systems.  Thanks to their work, thousands of Beninese children can benefit from fully lit classrooms in the middle of the bush.

Each of these humanitarian missions takes place over four phases : the evaluation of the requirements before departure, the installation and start-up of the new equipment, upkeep of the existing installations and lastly the distribution of the collected equipment to schools or hospitals.
